Ask & Ye Shall Receive

<< I recently shared this printable of a quote from Pope Francis.

I was reminded of Matthew 7:7-8
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

In an effort to grow stronger and more willing to be faithful this year, I decided I would follow this advice. So, I prayed and asked the Lord what He wanted from me… and that counsel to “be brave” was  n o  j o k e.

For now, I can’t share all that He has asked me to do, but I will tell you that it terrified me. Honestly? I immediately ignored the counsel. I did NOT want to do this. I did not feel brave enough to move forward with this command. I let the cries of doubt outvoice the whispers of comfort and confidence. I did not know why the Lord would ask me to do this or if I could muster the courage to. I had been so excited to meet this challenge of asking God what he wanted from me, but I felt defeated by the answer I received. Why would He ask this of me?

So, I let a week or so pass where I ignored this revelation. I went about day to day trying to pray for another task to complete. But the same answer came again and again. I finally broke down to Tyler one night, confessing to him what I felt I must do. Oh my strong, courageous Tyler. How is it that he is always ready for a challenge? Without a moment’s hesitation he was on board with the Lord, and ready to encourage me on this next adventure. How I admire his willingness to always, without fail, rise to meet whatever challenge we face. We prayed together and talked for hours. He pulled out his well-worn scriptures, flipping to stories and verses that rebuilt my confidence and renewed my faith.

The Lord knows my weaknesses, but He also knows my strengths. And He knows yours. He knows what greatness we are all capable of. He knows what we can do, when we are yoked with the Savior. We never face any challenge alone when we face it in faith. Ask the Lord what He wants from you, and you will receive an answer. You will also receive the strength to succeed.
